Thompson Highway

A less popular, though very scenic approach to the Rocky Mountains is along the David Thompson Highway from Rocky Mountain House. Here the road follows the North Saskatchewan River, the same river the finds its way into Edmonton. Most of this highway is outside the National Parks, and the scenery is only noteworthy from around Nordegg westward.
