Ukrainians were among the major immigrant
groups coming to Alberta, especially early in the 20th century. Many
settled in the area to the east of Edmonton. The Ukrainian Cultural
Heritage Village just east of Edmonton and near Elk Island National
Park recreates the lifestyles of Ukrainian settlers. The site's
interpreters act as though they were people of an earlier era, role
playing to the extent that they'll deny knowledge of more recent
events. © 2002 Richard McGuire
