Richard McGuire<\/p><\/div>\n

This blog is my place to share with you thoughts and experiences about two of my passions \u2013 travel and photography.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been doing both since I was a young kid.<\/p>\n

I got my first little box camera at age five, but became more serious about photography when I studied photojournalism in the 1970s as part of my training in journalism. Beginning in 1999, I started going digital, and since 2004, I\u2019ve been exclusively digital. My current camera is a Nikon D300.<\/p>\n

As a kid I also loved travel. I\u2019m old enough to remember taking steam-engine-drawn trains to visit family in southern Ontario and watching in fascination from the windows. And at a very young age, I explored Toronto on my own extensively on public transit and bicycle, before continuing my exploration abroad when I got older. I hitchhiked back and forth across Canada and the U.S. a number of times, and travelled to more than 50 countries of the world.<\/p>\n

Photography has often been part of my job \u2013 such as when I worked at several community newspapers as a reporter and editor, and reporters were expected also to be photographers. I\u2019ve never, however, worked full-time as a photographer, but I\u2019ve sold many of my photographs to private collectors and publications.<\/p>\n

After taking some time out from journalism, and working 14 years on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, I am now working as a reporter\/photographer in Osoyoos, British Columbia, in the beautiful and warm Southern Okanagan.<\/p>\n
