The image many outsiders have of Alberta is of
cowboy country. Certainly events such as the Calgary Stampede
capitalize on this image, and for a while in July many urban
Calgarians sport stetsons. There are real cowboys, especially in the
ranch country in the Rocky Mountain foothills, though most Albertans
aren't cowboys. Rodeos, like the one pictured here in Ponoka, are
