Kabul, Afghanistan's capital, was fairly quiet,
without the hustle and bustle of such larger cities on
the overland route as Istanbul, Teheran, or Delhi. Again
I explored the bazaars, amazed at the myriad of items
from beds to tire shoes being hand manufactured in the
streets. Shown here, men weave the fibres for rope beds,
which are common in this region. Behind is a completed
bed, which has a wood frame. © 1977, 1999 Richard McGuire
