Contrary to popular misconception, Afghani men loved
getting their pictures taken. I often wandered the
bazaars of Herat in the early morning and late afternoon
when the blazing midday July sun didn't drive me inside.
Despite some language problems, I found many Afghans
happy to pose -- the toughest part was getting them to
look natural and not wooden when faced with the camera.
