Most people know that bull fighting is a popular
sport in many Latin American countries. Fewer, though,
are familiar with the sport of "charreada,"
seen here in Guadalajara, Mexico. As an animal lover, I
refuse to participate in a bull fight, even in the
interest of cultural education. As an Albertan, however,
I was curious to see a charreada, the Mexican version of
our popular rodeos. While hard-core animal rights
activists may object to any use of animals in sport, none
were killed or visibly injured in the charreada I viewed.
