Heliconia flower, near Tena, EcuadorDigital Photo by Richard McGuire These brilliantly colourful heliconia plants are found throughout the rainforest of Ecuador's Oriente region. When they open up, they look like spectacular birds, and indeed a cousin of this one is known as the Bird of Paradise.
