Photographic Journey

McGuire in the Nepalese Himalayas in 1973.

by Richard McGuire

Over the past 30 years, Richard McGuire has visited more than 50 countries of the world, sometimes travelling on a shoestring. This included two journeys across Asia in the 1970s, living from a backpack, and taking uncomfortable local transportation, often through remote areas where he knew little of the local language. McGuire visited some countries, such as Afghanistan and Iran, shortly before conflicts closed them as destinations for most Western travellers.

With the eye of a photojournalist, McGuire recorded his travels with thousands of photographs, often spending more on film than basic necessities. Later becoming a professional journalist, he has since had his photographs published internationally.

This exhibition presents a selection of McGuire’s early and more recent photos from various parts of the world. This selection was shot originally as Kodachrome slides. They have been reproduced using modern digital technology, with only minor exposure adjustments.
