Bow Lake, Icefields Parkway, AlbertaDigital Print from Kodachrome Original Richard McGuire The Icefields Parkway, running 230 km (144 miles) between Jasper and Banff, is without doubt one of the most beautiful highways in the world, especially if you drive it on a sunny day. It passes numerous mountain lakes and glaciers in both Banff and Jasper parks. Wildlife is abundant. You frequently see wild sheep, deer or wapiti beside the roads, and sometimes you see mountain goats, bears, and numerous other animals. Due to the elevation and shade from the high Rocky Mountains, snow lasts well into the year -- sometimes into June.
