Costello Creek, Algonquin Park, OntarioDigital Photo by Richard McGuire Algonquin Park is best explored by canoe. This large provincial park consists of hundreds and hundreds of lakes and rivers, all either interconnected or a short portage away. This is a fine example of the landscape of the Canadian Shield, a vast area of pre-Cambrian rock that covers much of Canada. Park your canoe on a lonely lake and listen to the loons calling and wolves howling.
